Portland Twilight Criterium 2011

These are the best of my photographs from the 2011 Portland Twilight Criterium, a race that takes place in the park blocks of downtown Portland each year. You can’t imagine the thrill of having a mass of steel and flesh, well carbon fiber, titanium and flesh, barreling at you at 30+ miles an hour. Because of that, I positioned myself on the inside corner for most of the race so that when the accidents did happen – and there were two at my corner – the riders were spun away from me – in one case sparks a-flyin’. Fortunately, I don’t think there were any serious injuries and the racing was spectacular. The screaming of the fans as the Cat 1/2s came flying up the finishing straight was near deafening. Congratulations to Steven Beardsley for taking the 1/2 race and to Jeff Dunn for taking the Cat 3 earlier. Thanks to title sponsor Subaru and race promoter Brad Ross of Good Sport Promotion for putting on such a great show.
