We had another fiery sunset last night, although it was isolated to the NW horizon by clouds. After a slight detour to the waterfront on my way home I was able to frame the construction of Park Avenue West (TMT Development) – the building going up next to Director Park – in its surreal pink […]

I’m embarrassed it’s taken me so long to get these photos up on the blog, especially so because they are of one of my favorite projects in Portland and the house is home to my favorite owners I’ve dealt with by far.  Seriously, when I went back to grab some nighttime photos from the street […]

This is the first of three great projects coming up from drw design build. There were several small interventions in this classic West Hills home, the most significant being this entirely new kitchen.  The beautiful millwork throughout was by Skyline Fine Cabinets & Furniture.

Earlier this Summer I had the good fortune of photographing Nir Pearlson Architecture‘s gut renovation of the Stellaria Building for Hummingbird Wholesale.  Well since our shoot there’s been some great news as Nir won both the People’s Choice and the Mayor’s Choice awards in the annual AIA-SWO (American Institute of Architects Southwestern Oregon) design competition.  […]

I finally made it out to my first cyclocross race up here in Portland and my timing couldn’t have been more perfect because it happened to be the first Cross Crusade of the season, apparently the largest single-day cyclocross race in the world. I know I’ll regret it in a few weeks but I can’t […]

I was back in Eugene last weekend to see my Sister and Brother-in-law over the Easter weekend so I took the chance to drop in on my old boss, Nir Pearlson, to say hello and to see how he and my former co-worker, Roger, were doing. I knew things were going well because on several […]

When I used to live in Eugene, anytime I went off to play in the mountains – whether skiing at Willamette Pass or just hiking in the woods – I would always try to make a pit stop at Salt Creek Falls along the way. It’s an absolute blessing to have such an amazing waterfall […]

Here’s a quick review of my favorite photographs from 2011. Compiling the list made me realize that my archive, at some point this year, crossed the 100,000 exposure threshold. Henri Cartier-Bresson famously said, “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst” and I can certainly attest to that. I’d say that the digital corollary extends that […]

Merry Christmas from these thug Santas to you and yours!  I hope the big guy was good to you and that you’re getting to spend the day with those you love. Ho, ho, ho, Scott

Photos from yesterday’s Santacon madness in downtown Portland, Oregon. On the Max from Rock Bottom Brewery to Jeld-Wen Field/ PGE Park: Walking to Kingston Bar & Grill: Headed to The Matador: Switching Santacon’s to Blitz Pearl: And off to Dante’s: And a final shot (right) outside of Kelly’s Olympian:

The weather on Friday was too beautiful to be holed up indoors so I grabbed a late lunch and ate it on my drive out the Columbia River Gorge, headed to Eagle Creek. It was my first time on the popular trail but it certainly won’t be my last. I was happy to catch it […]

There’s not much to say that these photos aren’t already saying so I’ll just point out that these photographs are from Portland’s Pride Parade earlier this Summer. The one thing that is clear is that the LGBTQ community sure knows how to throw a party!
